Singapore Students to get free LEGO sets to commemorate SG50

This great piece of news is just released an hour ago. All the students & teachers in Singapore will receive a set of Lego "Building My SG" building bricks to commemorate Singapore's Golden Jubilee.

The bricks can be used in class to construct 3 iconic Singapore Landmarks - Cavenagh Bridge, Changi Airport and Garden by the Bay, each small set is representing a distinctive aspect of Singapore. Those in primary, secondary, special education, junior collages, ITE and polytechnics will receive their sets progressively by National Day.

Kids be careful of the small bricks...it is hard to replace if lost!

It is just wonderful to be in school today! 600,000 sets are produced and will be given out free to all the students and teachers. I was informed that a secondary market had already started and people are profiting from this (selling online). Each set cost more than $100. IF you received this set, treat it as a present PLEASE do not sell. This is a gift from the nation afterall. It came once every 50 years!!!

There will be a review of this set on the blog. My nephew & niece will be getting 1 set each. So stay tune.

The owner George is a great friendly guy, welcoming customers to his shop on the grand opening, he gave each customers a handshake and chit chat with us. I bought some lego there of course.

As part of Singapore’s 47th National Day Celebrations, Close to 200,000 LEGO® bricks and LEGO® mini-figures will re-create the rousing National Day Parade at the Marina Bay Floating Platform. The “Building a LovingSG” structure will span an area of 12 by 9 metres about the size of a volleyball court and involves over 500 volunteers. This project aims to reach out to Singaporeans from all walks of life, getting them to openly express their love for our country and their fellow Singaporeans by participating in this record-breaking initiative. Members of the public can contribute to this massive structure through their donations. With a minimum donation of SGD$5, they will receive their very own customized LEGO® mini-figures, and another similar one to be placed within the final display. Donations received from the project will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund to aid students in need and provide them with the resources to do well in school – and beyond.

Only 25,000 customised LEGO® mini-figures are created for this purpose!

The website will be up for donations and purchase from 30th May and the roadshows will be ongoing from 16th June 2012 to 24th June 2012. New lego store in town

The Brick Shop at Jurong Point, just opened for a week

There is a NEW Lego store in town - The Brick Shop (the 1st store for lego fans in west). During lunch time i was at Jurong Point after visiting client's site office. I came across this store and the modular houses on display was a welcoming sight (set belongs to the store owner).

The store is stocked with the current range of lego products. To become a member, a year subscription of $30, or spending of $300 on a single receipt. Member can enjoyed 10% off retail price. Which is similar for most of the lego stores.

Had a nice chat with a fellow lego fan, gave a little help here by blogging on the new store. All the best for his Lego business. The traffic at Jurong Point is really amazing.

Legoland Malaysia Brochure Latest

My friend send me this Legoland brochure via mail this week. Legoland will become a major tourist attraction in Malaysia at the end of this year. LegoAsia is proud to be the first blog to post the pictures of this brochure.

There are 6 major attraction in the park, divided into Lego Technic, Lego City, Lego Kingdom, Miniland, Imagination and Land of Adventure

THE BEGINNING (which is the entrance)
This entrance area is where the fun begins. The Big Shop offers the largest selection of Lego Toys.

LEGO TECHNIC
All heroes must face a challenge. On the TECHINIC Test Track, it's building up the courage to brave razor sharp turns and drops. Then power ski on Aquazone Wave Racers as you dodge water blasts.

LEGO CITY
This is where kids can captain a boat and drive their own LEGOLAND cars and even get a driver's license. And at LEGO City Rescue Academy, the entire family can race in LEGO fire trucks to hose down a "burning" building.

LEGO KINGDOM
This kingdom is yours to protect. Conquer The Dragon, romp through the hideaways and ride astride at the Royal Joust.

MINILAND
At Miniland, millions of LEGO bricks form spectacular reproductions of Malaysia's landmarks, including Kuala Lumpur with Petronas Twin Tower. There will also be other Asian icons such as Merlion (Singapore), Angkor Wat (Cambodia), Taj Mahal (India) and many more.

IMAGINATIONS
The Imagination is a place for the true LEGO fan. Everyone in the family can build and play with LEGO bricks and games. The Kid Power Towers lets you climb up for an amazing view before you drop and pull yourself up again. There are no limits to your imagination here!

LAND OF ADVENTURE
Journey through this forgotten city's ancient temple ruins to recover a pharaoh's stolen treasure. Bettle Bounce gives kids a boost as they are launched up on Egyptian obelisks. And for the bravest families, test your courage at the Dino Island.

The admission ticket pricing (per entry) will only be released before the opening of Legoland Malaysia.

LEGOLAND Malaysia is 76 acres of adventure geared with family fun. It is packed full of more than 40 rides, shows and attractions. Nearly all the rides are hands-on, so you can push, pull, pedal, program, steer, squirt, splash, crawl, climb and yes - build your way through a full day of non-stop fun.

check the blog again for more update on the Malaysia Legoland.

Legoland Annual Pass Ticket update

LEGOLAND Malaysia: www.legoland.com.my

A fellow Singaporean blogger amodularlife had got her Legoland ticket from SISTIC (local ticketing outlet). An annual pass at S$80 (plus $3 ticketing charges), the pre-opening annual passes are designed to allow Legoland enthusiasts not only to enjoy up to three months in 2012 and all of 2013, making the annual passes a value buy. In my opinion, it will worth the value if we can visit the park at least 3 times or more a year, just to try out all the 40 rides.

According NST report 7,000 annual passes have been sold with Singaporeans accounting for 35% of sales. NST Report

Legoland Malaysia Latest Update Feb 2012

On Tuesday Straits Times, 31 Jan, there is a latest report on the Malaysia Legoland. Singapore visitors key for Legoland. I would just post a few statements here for your information. The news article talk about the new rides, visitors expectation, entrance cost and a few others.

"All in all 5 million lego bricks had been used for the Legoland."

"The day passes which will be on sale in 2 months, are RM140 for adult and RM110, RM30 discount for Malaysian showing their identity card. The Malaysia's opposition has criticised the government for pouring millions into a theme park which may never earn back its RM720 million investment."

There isn't any typo mistake....RM 720 MILLION!! for the manpower & cost of 5 million bricks?

The exact location of Legoland in Johor Malaysia, a 10 mins drive from Singapore

The park will be opened in September or October 2012. LegoAsia will be the first to visit the park and we will have a special field report with tons of pictures.

Lego Minifigures Series 6 HUNT

From Toys "R" Us
Price: SGD 4.90 each
purchased a total of 21 packs, some of them are for my sis & a friend

Didn't intend to collect the full set this time round, at $4.90 each. It will cost around $80 for the full 16 figures, about 20% price increase from the usual $3.90. Series 5 was at S$4.50 each.

I requested for another box of minifigures from the staff, after the box in the store was kind of raid of the nice figures, there are 3 buyers before me, they had selected most of the "hot" figures away. The 1st guy got around 10 plus figures, the second guy around 15 figures, there was a girl buying a few. And i'm probably the 4th person inside the store to select from this box, after lunch time.

There are no codes on the pack, to get the figures you want, just touch & feel.

ROMAN SOLDIER, HIGHLAND BATTLER, MINOTAUR, BANDIT, CLASSIC ALIEN, GENIE, LEPRECHAUN, INTERGALACTIC GIRL, BUTCHER, MECHANIC, SKATER GIRL, SURGEON, SLEEPYHEAD, CLOCKWORK ROBOT, LADY LIBERTY and FLAMENCO DANCER.

The figures in red are the must have figures for me this time round... in blue are the "still alright" figures to collect. For the remaining... not too keen.

More pictures coming up in the next, once they are send for a photo taking session!!

Lego Star Wars 7964 Republic Frigate

Star Wars 7964 Republic Frigate, 1,015 pieces with 5 minifigures

Retail price in US 119.95. Singapore RP at S$299.90, after 20% discount at sales S$239.92. At an exchange rate of 1.25, the price in USA is at S$150. We pay S$90 more (after 20% discount), that's about 38% difference in price. Without the 20% sales, we pay an additional of S$149.90, around 50% more. I can certainly get a lot of lego with S$150!

Having paid less than USD 100 for this box including airmail from US, buyers can always source for cheap lego online. No doubt Lego Singapore is in business, but we hope they can review the lego prices here, we are having a 10-15% increament every year for the last 3 years. Lego is getting more expensive in Asia, but the prices in US are not increasing that much. The reason is we had a smaller market here.

back of the box

The minifigures, clone commander Wolffe, Wolfpack clone trooper, Eeth Koth, Quinlan Vos and Yoda. The loose minifigures of Eeth Koth & Quinlan currently cost more than USD20 each on US ebay (exclude postage)

Lego Annual Toys 'R' Us Sales at United Square

At 1 pm

The yearly Toys 'R' Us Lego Sales is here again at Novena United Square (from 19- 21 Aug), as advertised, the discount was up to 55%. This year my friends & I didn't bother to queue up and went into "battle" mode -battling for our lego, having done that for the last 2 years. After last year feedbacks from the public (or complaints), each customer is limited to 3 per box for the same item, no stacking of lego at one corner.

Reached Novena during lunch time around 1pm. The sales started at 11pm, my friend told me that there are people queuing up last evening (the usual practice). My sis was in the line, she queued for 2 hrs before getting into "shopping arena". Took another 1 hr to queue up for payment.

Sales items for this year are mainly CARS, Atlantis, Hero Factory, Prince of Persia, Bionicle, Racers, Toys Story, Space Police, Dulop, Technics and City, a few sets of Harry Potter, Pirates of Caribbean, Pharaoh's Quest and Castle. One reason the local forum AFOLs didn't turn out is because they ain't really interested in these sets.

almost empty..

waiting for payment... the cashiers were quite fast

happy day for the kids when mom snapped up sooo much LEGO!

buying for the kids

what i bought this year, just 1 box

Saturday & Sunday will be opened to the public (without TRU card memberships) , there will be restock this year. I don't think the sales are up to 55%, buyers please take note, there are a few boxes of Pirates Of the Caribbean without price tag, and that is retail price! (no discount), so do check your receipts! TRU should not put retail price items in this sales! We can always buy at 20% off during sales.
