Lego Sales for US buyers only

Most visitors to this blog are from US, so here's a good bargain for you guys.

Malaysia Lego

Readers might like to have a look at Malaysia lego price, i am kind of surprised by the "PRICE". The policy being such that if the country's sales volume is less (less popular), the price will be higher. If we talk about buying power, it is impossible for the average Malaysian to buy such expensive toys in their country. Paying RM 700 for a box is about half or 1/3 of their salary, (based on the average income in Malaysia). No wonder Lego will not make it in Malaysia market, at least have the same price as Singapore.

Kingdoms King's Castle RM 669.90 (SGD 283, USD 220) Indonesian price is probably the same or higher than Malaysia.

Singapore Retail price $219.90, members can get 10% less. I bought this castle at SGD135.90 during sales.

Kind of speechless, looks like a black market to me...this is the lego pricing in Asia (Indonesia too). We are kind of neglected here, why are we paying much more as compared to US, Australia and maybe UK.

TRU Mad Sale

At around 8 am, and I can sense there is a chance to get something today.

Gone in minutes... in general most are fellow collectors looking for good bargain. I hope they restock over the weekend for those who missed this round.

I don't even bother to walk over to the star wars section, even I was keen on the imperial star destroyer this time (guess it is ok, I won quite a few others), worried my earlier sets will be taken if I'm away for too long... a China girl helped me to keep an eye on my items. Star wars sets were gone in 5 mins from my knowledge.

This year is worst than last... the people are really "fierce". Seeing kids crying, angry customers complaining... this is part & parcel of a mad sales, it is not recommended to bring along your kids.

For those who went down for a sales, our main aim will be to get what we want... for all the trouble of queuing and waiting, at the end of the day, if you get what you wanted, then it will be worth it. I knew there are people who stayed overnight just to go in, guess they deserved to get the popular sets, I don't promote such behaviour, and we can't stop them from doing so.

Reached the location alone at around 8am, 3 hours before the sale, in front of me are around 20 people (but once the door is opened, there are around 30-40 in front of me). Time passes quicky as I chit-chat with fellow lego lovers while waiting.

And the battle begins at 11pm... and it was a fast one..

Within 15 mins I was going to the cashier. I will not describle the tactics used by others, but I was alone.. it was all about speed and knowing what you want in a mad place (with a bit of luck), it is once a year a crazy sale anyway.. and you join in the madness. The 10210 imperial flagship was avaliable at SGD 204, just a few sets.

Even when you get your sets, someone will just grab it in from of you, some will be more polite asking if the sets are taken, others will just pull it away from you. When you can get 50-65% lower than retail price, the "best" character will be on display.

My haul in 10 mins madness. Left the place within 20 mins, went straight to the cashier kicking the items along the floor, how I wish someone was there to help me, and a friend turn out to help cheers! Waited less than 10 mins at the cashier. Yes again, carried all these stuff in one go...

The Kingdoms castle was for my nephew and me, my nephew currently in primary school pays for his own toys, so I'm glad I helped him to save his pocket money. The creator sets are for my sister.

Set 3221 is a cool lego truck, 5891 Apple Tree House and 6754 Family Home are for family fun.

Happy with these items, all captured alone. The BIG winner being TRU who organized this yearly event. To generate more revenue, they can stock up for the weekend sales. I bet 80-90% will be gone, this time from the public. Probably won't be going for such sale next year.

New Addition 30 July

Well the *3rd big purchase* in July. I would like to take this opportunity to comment on the amazing Metro sales staff (from Philipines).

Was using the big grey lego base as support and place all the lego on top of it.. as I walked towards the cashier for payment, a staff with a big smile, immediately rushed over from the counter and offered to help me to bring the lot over... Superb customer service.

Given 2 free lego baggage tag for the purchase.

The extra Lego Camper Van belongs to a friend. The star wars trooper, police bike, farmer, wizards are extra. It was on sales, although this was not the big one.

* The second big purchase for this month was a few orders from US, UK (arrived), Germany and Singapore (collected). Will keep you guys update once the items arrive.. check the blog again.

Lego is super addictive.

Lego Sales in Singapore (Aug 2009)

Pictures are not taken by me. On the bottom right are the rare Lego ambulance set bundle with a lego set. Pirates, City, Indiana Jones, Star Wars and others.

All these were gone within a day (10 am to about 9 pm), just for card members. No stock left for Sat & Sun, the public was disappointed.

Castles were gone within an hour...half the retail price. To get a cheap set, you have to be fast.

Lego Police Station, Fire Station at SGD 99.90, about USD 70. Just a few train sets avaliable..

As mentioned on 21 Jun post, here is a post on last year lego sales.

The day before the start of the sale, "scouts" lego fan (the pictures above), access the location to take some pictures ... I came across these pictures on the local lego forum only after the sales. Before going down, they were able to know where the lego sets were placed and what was avaliable.

For card holders, we were allowed to enter on the first day of the 3 day sales. By the way, more than 95% of the lego were sold on the first day. The price was 50% or more off current retail price. What excite the buyer was, on sale were the current sets in the market, so the price was very attractive, great savings indeed. 2009 was during the financial crisis, and business need revenue which was hard to come by.

She was lucky enough to get the rare batman sets too.. just 2-3 surprise sets in the sales. Even the sets town plan!

You need someone to keep an eye on your items, when you go around to gather the sets you want ...you can't carry them around if you are buying more than 3 sets, you need another hand to grab the items :) Have to be fast!!! Yes, if you are fast enough, you are rewarded with the town sets, pirates, castles (limited sets). At that time, all the good sets were gone within minutes. She kept an eye on our sets when we are away, she was with her friends, look at what they gathered, there were more sets in front! This is the first time i came across buyers who are stacking lego sets (like free), her 3 friends came back with more...

Yes, you can hand carry all the above in one go after payment...having tried that! Look silly, but i took a taxi back. So it is best to have a friend or relative around to help you. 3 castles, one for myself, one for my nephew and final set was a birthday present.
Just buying what I need, and skip the rest..

My second day purchase on 2 Star Wars Lego, a Creator set and a few others ... nothing left on the 2nd day...

Lego are expensive...and to collect we buy on discount.
