Lego X-Wing unveiled in Times Square

Star Wars and LEGO fans got a big surprise in New York City on Thursday when the Danish toy company unveiled a massive X-Wing made of LEGO bricks to promote their new animated television special, The Yoda Chronicles The massive sculpture is actually a 1:1 scale model of the X-Wing fighter, the craft that Luke Skywalker flew in the original Star Wars films. Gizmodo reports that it measures an amazing 43 feet long, stands 11 feet high and has a 44-foot wingspan.


 

This is the largest LEGO structure ever assembled, it uses 5,335,200 pieces of lego.

Navy SEALS Team MOC

Created a team of navy SEAL mini figures last week. These parts from purchased from 4 different countries, in doing so it is cheaper as compared to buying them on ebay.

I'm back after spending 14 days in US. Mainly in San Francisco & Las Vegas. In San Francisco I didn't came across any lego store. It is not cheap when taking cab in US, at Las Vegas we took a cab to the Las Vegas Premium Outlet (North) for some shopping, mainly clothings. The next day we went to the Premium Outlet in the South, the taxi fare cost about USD20, back & fro was almost USD40 (we didn't went there just for toys)

There was a Toys R Us outlet, it is not a store, so it is pretty small. The lego there are limited. I purchased 2 boxes of 9489 Star Wars Battle Pack & 9490 Droid Escape (USD14.99 & USD24.99 exclude tax).

For those coming back from US, there is a limit of goods you can carry back to Singapore, all passengers are required to declare at the airport. Total purchase must not be more than S$600, else you have to pay tax at the airport. We just remove all the labels of clothings and bags, for lego it will be alright if you remove them from boxes. It is not worth to take risk, if you are caught a fine will be imposed.

Head-scratching in Florida over Lego Man

A huge Lego sculpture that mysteriously appeared last week on a Florida beach will remain in police custody for 90 days while investigators try to figure out its owner.

The more than 2.4m-tall Lego Man weighing about 45kg turned up on the sands of Siesta Key beach off Florida's gulf coast last Tuesday, but no one has claimed responsibility for putting it there.

A swimmer first reported the green, yellow and red sculpture which says " No Real Than You Are" on the front, and "Ego Leonard" on the back.

The Danish manufacturer of the widly popular brick-building toys - which opened the world's largest Legoland in Orlando, Florida earlier this month - has denied any involvement.

In January, grand piano appeared mysteriously on a tiny sandbar in Miami's Biscayne Bay, and weeks later, a 16-year old boy owned up.

He had moved the piano onto the beach with the help of his father in a bid to make a video to help him get into a Manhattan art school.

As usual the difference in retail price (before discount) in Singapore is 40-50% more expensive as compared to US.

Unless there is a BIG sales of 30-40% discount, i won't be getting any POTC sets here. For local fans on budget, if they are patience enough, just wait for another 3 -4 mths or by the end of this year, i foreseen POTC will be similiar as POP (Prince of Persia), they will be on discount - clearing stock (applicable to Singapore market).

On today's newspaper: mypaper (8 April), there is an article on Lego. The title: Becoming a professional playing LEGO.

An interview on our local Lego Certified Professional Nicholas (his blog is on my blogroll). A Lego Certified Professional is not a Lego staff who draws a salary, in order to qualify and maintain the status, a LCP is required to pay the Lego company USD1,000 every year like membership. In return a LCP has access to all the bricks at a special price (for their building projects), attend special lego events and receive the first updates on lego products. It is not easy to become a LCP, you have to qualifiy for it by presenting your creation and work to Lego.


There are currently only 11 LCP in the world, Nicholas is the only one from Asia. The other 10 are from USA (5), Canada, Australia, Germany, Belgium and Norway. Among the 11 LCP, only 1 female by the name Beth Weis. The most famous among the 11 LCP are Nathan Sawaya from New York (a lawyer who gave up his practice to become a LCP), another well known LCP also from US is Sean Kenney (he is the first LCP).

Was reading the edge, there was a picture of Obama watching the lego robotic demonstration.

Obama watches a Lego robotic demonstration while visiting Intel, which is still considered an icon of US innovation.

Hillsboro is the location of a large research and manufacturing facility for Intel Corp, the global semiconductor giant. On Feb 18 US President Barack Obama visited the site as part of his tour of the American heartland to drum up support for the restructuring of the economy and his plans involving education and innovation to help create new jobs.
